A local government chairmanship aspirant, Hon Gbolahan Ismaili Idowu Irawo, has promised to put an end to the gang war and other societal vices in Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Developmet Area, LCDA, Lagos State, if elected.
Gbolahan, who is contesting on the platform of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, stated this while speaking with P.M.NEWS on how to find a lasting solution to the crises which the council area has been known for.
Speaking on how he would halt the crisis in the council area, he said: “Unemployment has been the cause of the crises that is going on in Odi Olowo/Ojuwoye; not that the youths there are lazy but it is because there is no job for them to do.
“This is my number one priority. I am going to tackle unemployment and ensure that all youths in the local government are gainfully employed.
He referred to an adage which says that “An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.”
“Once they are fully engaged, the issue of gang war would become a thing of the past,†he said.
The aspirant also promised to empower women, especially widows as wella s orphans.
According to him, “I strongly believe that once the citizens are developed, the community, state and the country as a whole would equally be developed. And women and orphans should not be left out in any programme of a government that is willing to succeed.â€
On the recent flooding in the state, the aspirant commiserated with all the victims and those that lost their loved ones.
He called on the Federal Governemnt to partner the Lagos State government on the dredging of canals in the state so as to check a reccurence of such floods.
He also called on the federal government to give special allocation to Lagos State government so that the flood victims can be adequately compensated.
