Nigerian Customs Impounds Smuggled Drugs, Textiles

Luck has run out for a group of smugglers, when the Nigerian Customs Service intercepted a large cache of banned drugs and textiles, worth several millions of Naira. The items were impounded at Nigerian border in Katsina state.

Comptroller Customs in charge of Kastina/Kaduna Command, Alhaji Yusuf Umar , who disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Kaduna today confirmed that the intercepted items which were seized by the anti-smuggling team included 542 cartons of dangerous drugs concealed as slippers. Others items he said included 58 disclofenac, dozens of bales of foreign wax and 154 cartons of sulphur ointments.

 

The comptroller also explained that the illegal consignments came from Madarumfa in Niger Republic through the Jibiya borders before they were intercepted at Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State.

While explaining that the suspected smugglers have been operating on the borders for quite some time unhindered , he commended customs personnel in general for the great feat. He poured special praise on the officer in charge of the borders, Chief Superintendent of Customs, Gambo Azare for the concerted effort mounted to track the smugglers down.
