There was stampede at Cement Bus Stop, Lagos-Abeokuta expressway this morning during a clash between policemen and commercial motorcyclists better known as okada riders in the area.
Details of what led to the clash were still sketchy as at time of filing this report, but the okada riders were seen stoning policemen with objects, while the cops were shooting sporadically.
An unconfirmed report has it that the okada riders are protesting police harassment and extortion.
They have barricaded the busy expressway with bonfires, and this resulted in a heavy traffic gridlock.
According to an eyewitness account, “some motorists have abandoned their vehicles, while commuters have scampered for safety. The situation is very tense.â€
