3 Arraigned Over N21m Cement Theft

The police in Lagos have arraigned three men before the gbosere Magistrate’s Court on a three-count charge of stealing their employer’s cement.

The police alleged in the charge suit No. B/25/2011 that the accused, Anthony Oladejo Adeola, 27, Shakira Ajagbe, 36 and Sanya Olasoki Togbodo, 29 on 17 May, 2011 at Ajah, Eti-Osa, Lagos State, conspired while in the course of employment of Otunba Samuel Olubukola, and stole cement valued at N21,600,000 which they allegedly loaded in three trucks.

The police further alleged that the accused were arrested following a complaint by the victim and the accused were arrested at a hide out.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, Inspector Marcus Okon, are punishable under Section 516, 473(1) and 390(6) of the Criminal Code, Cap. C17, vol. ii, laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. Abegunde Davies, granted them bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties who must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State government for three years.

She adjourned the matter till 10 August, 2011.

The accused were ordered to be remanded at the Ikoyi Prison when they could not meet their bail conditions before the court closed for the day.
