Prince Balogun Promises Better Chairman’s Cup

Chairman of Ibeju Lekki Local Government, Lagos, Nigeria, Prince Bayo Balogun, says future editions of Chairman’s Cup will be better and glamorous in terms of packaging and organisation.

Prince Balogun, who is fondly called “The Special One”, said at the final of the 2011 edition of the Chairman’s Cup held at the playground of Roman Catholic Primary School, Ibeju-Agbe Town, Lagos, that he was impressed with what the grassroots football tourney has been doing for the youth of the local council since inception. This, he said, has motivated him to continue his sponsorship support for the competition.

Candid FC of Iberekodo defeated Invisible FC of Awoyaya 5-4 on penalty to win this year’s tourney at the final watched by a capacity crowd.

Okonlomo FC, Ibeju beat Lakowe FC 3-1 to win the third place trophy.

Prince Balogun praised the gallantry display of the two finalists and congratulated Candid FC for lifting the trophy after a rigorous competition.

“I’m happy that the two finalists justified their place in the final and the winners were so good to win the trophy,” he said.

“I also want to commend the fans who defied the rain to watch the best of grassroots championship as displayed by the team today. This shows that with support these players have a brighter future ahead.”

Various awards were given to deserving players and team at the end of the competition, these included the Best Behaved Team award which was won by Invisible.

Jimoh Ibrahim of Candid FC won the best goalie award, Highest Goal Scorer award went to Bakare Aliu of Okanlomo, while the Most Valuable Player, MVP, award was given to Sharmark Akapo of Candid FC.
