A Mushin Customary Court in Lagos on Thursday threatened to seal up a building at 9, Ramoni Oke St., Mushin, for constituting environmental nuisance.

The Court President, Dr. Abayomi Ipaye, gave the landlord, Alhaji Fatai Olabanji, one month to repair the building or have it sealed.

Mr. Raji Razak, Sanitary Health Officer, Mushin Local Government, told the court that the landlord was brought to court on July 4 on a five-count charge.

“The landlord has refused to repair the rusty and weak roof, defective ceiling, facing board and dilapidated walls.

“The landlord also failed to repair the broken concrete floor, provide adequate toilet, bathroom, kitchen and drain for free flow of waste water,” Razak said.

According to him, the offence contravenes Sections 7 and 8 of the Environmental Laws of Lagos State 2000.

The landlord, however, told the court that he was ready to repair the house but said he could not do so with tenants still living in the house.

“Ten tenants were living in the premises, seven had packed out, remaining three. I cannot carry out any repair with the continued stay of the tenants,” Olabanji said.
