Ex-councillor and Supervisor for Education, Kosofe Local Government, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, Hon. Fatai Gbadebo, has flagged off his chairmanship campaign for the local government.

The ceremony which took place at Ogudu Grammar School, was attended by party leaders, traditional rulers, market men and women, artisans and students among others.

Speaking at the ceremony, Gbadebo said though the present administration in the council is trying its best, he is still not happy and satisfied with the infrastructure development.

He said: “I’m not happy with what I’m seeing around in terms of infrastructure development. Our roads are in state of disrepair and there is ravaging poverty in the land. I think a stop should be put to all these.

“Everybody must be carried along and I have it at the back of my mind that I will initiate a town hall meeting where community leaders and political office holders will always meet and rub minds together on how to move the local government forwards.

“If given the mandate to serve as the chairman of this local government, I will ensure that our roads are motorable, provide health centres where necessary, rehabilitate our schools where urgent attention is needed as well as provide soft loan for our women, provide vocational centres in order to alleviate poverty in the area.”

Speaking on his political experience, he said he has been a councillor twice in Shomolu and Kosofe local governments.

“I was also made the first supervisory councillor for Education in Kosofe Local Government. During this period, I paid for the SSCE of 4,043 students in all the schools in Kosofe.

“I also made provision for subsidised transport system tagged “Kosofe Scholar Bus Scheme”, specifically to convey students to and from schools within the local government, annual bursary awards for students of tertiary institutions as well as the creation of 20 adult literacy centres in the area.

“In addition, I made substantial financial contribution to the development of Lagos State University, LASU and provided scholarship award to outstanding indigent students.”
