Gov Chime To Assist In Relocation Of Prison

Enugu State Government has expressed its willingness to assist the federal government in the speedy re-location of the Enugu Prisons currently located at the centre of Enugu, the state capital.

The state governor, Mr. Sullivan Chime made the promise on Sunday when he received the Minister of Interior Affairs, Comrade Patrick Moro who was in Enugu to inspect the damage caused by fire that destroyed more than 15 houses at the Prisons and Police quarters in the state.

The fire had started from a loaded fuel tanker which fell and exploded as it negotiated a roundabout near the prisons in the city.

The governor who was represented by the Deputy, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, said that the relocation of the prison had become necessary since the compound which used to be at the outskirts of the town had been swallowed up by urbanization.

He described the fire incidence as very unfortunate and tragic, adding that government would do everything possible to alleviate the sufferings of those affected in the inferno.

Chime commended the minister for the visit as well as the federal and state agencies including the state staff, fire officers, the Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Road Safety Commission for their efforts.
