Let's Be Pious —Amosun, Speaker Charge Muslims

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has urged muslims to use the period of the holy month of Ramadan to re-dedicate themselves to Almighty Allah and reflect on His injunctions in their dealings with fellow citizens and the government.

In a congratulatory message sent yesterday and signed by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication to the governor, Amosun said the fasting period teaches all devout Muslims the virtues of discipline, honesty and empathy in their relationship with fellow human beings.

According to him,”it is important for all Muslims to display these virtues in their daily endeavours. Those who are fasting should present themselves to other citizens as models of good behaviour, that is the essence of Ramadan, the Holy month.

“The denials that Muslims will experience during the next one month should forever make us to be law abiding, honest, patient, maintain good relationship with fellow citizens and perform our civic responsibilities as good Nigerians,” he said.

The governor further advised religious leaders to use the period to preach unity and co-operation among citizens who belong to other religions so that peace can continue to reign in the state in particular and Nigeria in general.

In a related development, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Surajudeen Ishola Adekunbi also charged all Muslims to use this month to move closer to Allah and be prayerful as what the state and the nation needs most now is prayer.

The Speaker who spoke with our correspondent on phone this afternoon, reminded the Muslims of their duties during the Holy month, advising that everything should be done by them to be prayerful this month as bountiful blessings await all those that seeks for it.

According to him,”we should all use this month to step up our faith and belief in the most exalted who gives position and takes it. I want to implore the good people of our state to pray fervently for this government to succeed and we promise to do our best which Inshallahu will bring positive changes to the lives of the good people of our state.

”What this government needs most from our people now is their prayer. This is a holy month that Allah Has promised us that whoever asks anything during this month, it will be given unto him.I want to also appeal to everybody to desist from what Allah Has forbidden us to move away from and be steadfast, prayerful and pious during the month. By doing these, we are contributing in no small measure to the progress, success and transformation of our state.”

He urged Muslim faithful to use the denial period to forgive those that might have offended them as that is part of the injuctions Allah expected from them during the Holy month of Ramadan.
