The management of Promasidor Nigeria Limited has shut down the company to avert break down of law and order.
This followed botched negotiations with the officials of the National Union of Food Beverages and Tobacco Employees (NUFBTE) based on some of their demands.
According to a statement by Andrew Enahoro, the company’s Head, Legal & Public Relations, following a 7- day ultimatum issued by the State Council of the NUFBTE to the Promasidor management, “the management of the company had to close down the factory in order to forestall any breakdown of law and order as well as to secure and protect lives.
“This was communicated to members of staff via a circular that was also posted on the company’s gate. Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Labour has invited both parties for a meeting on Wednesday (03-08-11) on the issues.
“The management will not be making any further comment until after the meeting with the ministry.”
