Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, the former Chief Security Officer, CSO, to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, wept bitterly as he opened his defence before a Lagos High Court this afternoon in a case of the killing of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola.
The former CSO who was led in evidence by his counsel, Olalekan Ojo, told the court that the former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, is behind his ordeal and wants him to remain in prison for life.
He claimed to be in the possession of both video and audio evidence on how General Abacha and Chief MKO Abiola were allegedly murdered.
He told the court that the fear of the former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami was that if he should divulge the said information heads will roll. And that was the reason the General wanted him permanently in the prison.
Consequently, Al-Mustapha claimed that Abdulsalami was behind his incarceration.
He said as a senior officer who was enlisted in the Nigerian Army in 1980, he served the army in various capacities.
According to him, there is documentary evidence to show that shortly after the death of MKO Abiola, Gen. Abdulsalami ordered that some millions of money be withdrawn from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The following sums of money were then withdrawn, $200 million, 75 million pounds and N500 million to appease southwest leaders and douse the tension that arose after the death of MKO Abiola, Al-Mustapha claimed.
The former CSO said he knew MKO Abiola in 1985 and the late politician was like a father to him and even after the 12 June, 1993 presidential election was annulled, he assisted him to have access to some senior military officers including the late Gen. Sani Abacha.
The matter has been adjourned till Wednesday, 3 August 2011 for continuation.
