Siasia Eyes Flying Eagles

Colombia 2011 is a chance for Flying Eagles stars to impress Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia, who was at the Estadio Centenario to watch the team bash Guatemala 5-0 on Sunday.

Ahmed Musa’s speed down the wings caught the eye, but Siasia is already very much aware of the exploits of the VVV Venlo star as he is in his squad.

Edafe Egbedi was widely picked as the man of the match by the press and the fans as he sped past his marker time and again and also scored a brace.

Abduljaleel Ajagun’s wholehearted commitment in the middle was equally hailed by Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, technical committee chairman, Chris Green.

But Siasia could have seen some encouraging signs in the central defensive partnership of Kenneth Omeruo and Gani Ogungbe as well as the maturity of Emmanuel Anyanwu even though he was playing out of his usual central defence position at right back.

Anyanwu, already an Olympic international, got two assists, the cross for Olanrewaju Kayode to head home and the pass that set up Ahmed Musa for his goal and the fifth of the match.

Siasia has struggled to maintain a stable central defence since he took up the Eagles top job late last year.

Meanwhile, the NFF has admonished the Flying Eagles not to get carried away with the superlative 5-0 scoreline they recorded against Guatemala in their first match on Sunday night.

Spokesman of NFF, Ademola Olajire, said: “We have sent words to the handlers of the team in Colombia that they should not let complacency set in when they take on the Croats tomorrow in Armenia.”
