Unity Community Games Kick Off

The famous Unity Community Development Association (Ifetedo-Alagbole) Games kicked off over the weekend amidst fanfair and glamour with numerous fans trooping out to watch the tournment.

The annual event has entered its third edition and is organised for the residents of the Unity Community Development Association at Ifetedo-Alagbole, Ifo, Ogun State

The event was organised to foster unity among the residents, who are of different tribes across the country.

The event, which was graced by various dignitaries within Ifetedo- Alagbole and its environs, was declared opened by the chairman of the community, Prince Adeniyi, who was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Modupe Adeniyi.

During his speech, Prince Adeniyi expressed gratitude to God for sparing the lives of the residents of the community and charged all the participants to be disciplined and show spirits of sportsmanship throughout the five-week (weekend only) tourney.

Also, the Emeritus Chairman Jokosenumi in his speech said he was impressed that the present executive led by Prince Adeniyi is keeping alive the legacy of the community and charged them to surpass the achievements of past executives.

Jokosenumi thanked all the landlords and residents of the community for their presence and continued support. He also thanked the community for providing a parcel of land for the association’s secretariat.

Meanwhile, in order to ensure full participation of residents in the event, the organisers grouped all the streets into five zones, which include Fakeye /Segilola, Ogunleye /Ogunaike, Dele Ajayi /Kuye Momoh, Oshin /Olorunyonusimi and Ade-Odeniyi.

All participating zones are expected to contest in various sporting activities such as table tennis named after Barr. Abiodun Ilaka and soccer named after Emeritus Chairman, Jokosenum

Other events are quiz, named after D.A Omole, essay named after Engr. Oyetunji and environmental contest, which would be used to maintain cleanliness in the community.

Some of the games decided at the weekend were table tennis contest between Fakeye/Segilola and Ogunleye/Ogunaike, which Ahmond Asile won in two straight sets.

The contest between Oshin /Olorunyonusimi and Ade-Odeniyi zone was won byToki Phillips, who representing Oshin zone.

Two soccer matches were also played , but the highlight of the day was the defeat suffered by the defending champions, Ade-Odeniyi zone. They were beaten by the boys from Oshin /Olorunyonusimi zone by 2-1.

The other match between Fakeye/Segilola zone and Ogunleye/Ogunaike zone ended 2-1 in favour of Manchester United dressed Ogunleye /Ogunaike zone.
