Man Dupes RCCG

The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Mafoluku District, Oshodi Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria, is now counting its losses after it was duped by a suspected fraudster.

The church was duped to the tune of N1.2 million by a fake land owner, Dantata Musa, 35.

He leased an empty plot of land that does not belong to him to the church for the building of a parish in Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos. The land is located at 31, Osundeyi Street, Mafoluku, Oshodi where the church is presently temporarily locate.

P.M.NEWS gathered that members of the church contributed the money so that they will have a befitting place to worship.

The district head, Pastor Olamoye Kola allegedly paid the money to Musa on a lease for undisclosed number of years after he showed them what seem to be genuine documents relating to the ownership of the land.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the church members later knew that they had been duped when they attempted to erect a structure on the land and the original land owners surfaced and asked the church to keep off the land.

The pastor, having realised that the church had been duped, went to the police station and reported the matter.

Musa was arrested and charged to Oshodi Magistrate’s Court for fraud.

When he was arraigned before the court, he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. M. R. Osho Adebiyi, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties.

The matter was adjourned till 9 August, 2011 for mention.

Meanwhile, the church is still battling to settle the issue with the original owners in order to remain on the land, P.M.NEWS learnt.
