The need for the newly admitted students into Lagos State University (LASU), to know the essence of being in school was the thrust of the orientation week programme organised by the Students’ Representative Council (SRC).

The freshers, as they are fondly called, gathered in their numbers at the Ogba and Anthony campuses of the university recently for special lectures and orientation. At the Anthony Campus, versatile motivational speaker, Ambassador Babs Ogunmola, charged the students to be determined in their quest to achieve success while in school, urging them not to give up until the system is changed for the better.

Ogunmola said if teachers could be encouraged with gratification and good facilities, especially in secondary schools, our education system would be in a better shape. Speaking on the motives behind the programme, president of the Council, Comrade Dare Dada, said it was designed to enlighten, educate and inform the students about life in school.

According to him, “I want to tell you that there are students that can’t differentiate between a university lecturer and secondary school teacher and I don’t blame them because they are new in the system. That’s why we organised this programme and we hope it will have positive impact on their lives.”

Some of the students who spoke with Campus Square lauded the organisers, saying such programme will help to inform the new ones. Adekola Bukola Adeola, a fresh student of Business Administration, said “the programme is great. It has enabled me to know more about the school and what is expected of me.”

At the Ogba Campus, it was edutainment galore as the programme was held amid pomp and pageantry.
