Pastor Jailed For Theft

For allegedly breaking into a church, Throw of Mercy Apostolic Church and shops of Obinna Agbodike, Grace Edet, Kemi Bamidele, Funke Oniki, Ojeleye Basiru and stealing N472, 000, a pastor, John Wisdom, 29, has been arraigned before the Ota Magistrates’ Court for theft.

In the 16-count charge filed against him, the prosecutor, Inspector O. Ohiku alleged that the accused on 18 April, 2011 jumped over the fence into Throw of Mercy Apostolic Church and stole one mic engine box valued at N27,000 and N5,000 belonging to the church.

The prosecutor alleged further that in October 2010 at 6, Ayowole Road, the accused broke into a shop belonging to Obinna Agbodike and stole large quantities of motorcycle and generator spare parts valued at N300,000.

He also stole one packet of artificial finger nails, one packet of makeup, seven pieces of powder, twelve pieces of eye lashes, two packets of wetlips and lip sticks, three pieces of eyeshadow, six pieces of face brush, five pieces of pink oil, twelve pieces of Darling Yaki Curl, six pieces of afro attachment, fourteen pieces of X-pression attachment and one gallon of shampoo all valued at N25,000, property of Grace Edet.

The prosecutor disclosed that the accused was caught by Pastor Timothy Okoli who reported him to the police. The stolen items were later recovered from his house.

His offences contravened Sections 415, 390 (9), 509,413(1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State.

He pleaded guilty to some of the charges and the presiding magistrate, Alhaji Akeem Adenariwo found him guilty and sentenced him to six months in prison with hard labour or a fine of N10,000 on each count charge.
