419 Suspect Docked

A 40-year old man, Fred Idankwohai, has been arrested by the police for allegedly collecting N160,000 on false pretence.

The suspect was arrested at 80, Alfa Nla Road, Agege, Lagos and arraigned before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge.

He allegedly collected N160, 000 from Blessing Amos on the pretence of providing her a shop on 22 May, 2011.

His offence, according to the prosecutor, Roman Inuigbe is contrary to and punishable under Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 17, Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

Count two reads: “That you, Fred Idankwohai on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid magisterial district did steal the sum of one hundred and sixty thousand naira (N160, 000) belonging to Blessing Amos and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap.17, Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.”

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate A.T. Omoyele granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties who are gainfully employed and are tax payers. The case has been adjourned till 21 August, 2011.
