An Osogbo Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday sentenced a 22-year old driver, Rasaz Suleiman, to six months imprisonment for violating traffic signal in Osogbo.

Suleiman was arraigned on a three-count charge of disobedience to traffic signal, driving without driver’s licence and

valid vehicle particulars.

The police prosecutor, Mr. John Idoko, had told the court that the driver, on August 3, at Igbona Junction, in Osogbo, drove a Suzuki minibus with registration number XA 786 AA, without obeying a traffic hand signal.

Idoko added that the convict drove the said vehicle without driver’s licence and failed to produce valid particulars of the

minibus when demanded by the police.

According to him, the offences are contrary to and punishable under sections 78(1), 7(1) and 62, of RTR, Cap. 113, Volume V, Laws of Osun, 2003.

Suileman pleaded guilty to the three charges, but appealed to the court for leniency.

In his judgement, Magistrate Olusola Aluko, sentenced him to two months imprisonment on each of the three counts, totaling six months.

Aluko, however, gave the driver an option of N3,000 fine at “N1,000 per count.”
