NDLEA Arrests 20 Suspects

The NDLEA in Bauchi State has arrested 20 suspected drug addicts in possession of 88.2 kg of cannabis and psychotropic substances.

The state Commander of the Agency, Mr Sule Momodu made this known on Wednesday in Bauchi as he paraded the suspects before newsmen.

Momodu said the suspects were arrested at different locations in the state.

He said that 12 of the suspects believed to be involved in the selling and smoking of cannabis were arrested at Muda Lawal Market in the metropolis.

Momodu said that a distributor believed to be an indigene of Edo State was arrested with 86.3kg of cannabis at Bakin Kura ward of Bauchi as he was giving out the substance to his customers.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria that the suspect had earlier escaped from custody of the command but was re-arrested on 1August. He also disclosed that three other suspects and ex-convicts who went back into the business were arrested.

He expressed regret that drug traffickers in the state were becoming a security threat to the state and appealed for stringent jail terms for culprits.

The commander also called on the state government to construct a rehabilitation centre for drug addicts.
