Ramadan Stops Abesan Cup

The much-awaited Abesan Cup scheduled to kick off this month has been postponed due to fasting observed by the Muslim faithfuls during the Ramadan.

The competition, according to the organisers, will now hold on 4 September at three centres. The centres are Joju playground, Sango Otta, Ogun State, Isheri Community Primary School, Idimu and Teachers Training College, Ifako-Ijaiye.

Chairman Organising Committee of the tourney, Tayo Adeyemo, said the competition was postponed because some coaches had complained to the committee that their teams cannot play during the Ramadan period.

“Most coaches don’t want the competition to hold during the Ramadan. The teams complained to us that they can’t play during the period. We have to postpone the competition until next month,” he said.

Adeyemo told GSG that eight teams have completed their registration and urged interested clubs to come for their registration before it closes.

“The registration will close on Monday and I am using this medium to urge club owners to return their registration forms, otherwise they will be fined,” he said.
