ACN Slams Rivers Govt Over N250b Request For Water Rehabilitation

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) Rivers State has condemned the administration of Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for failing to take the provision of water in the state seriously throughout the past four years of his administration.

The party, in a statement released in Port Harcourt chided the state Water Resources Commissioner, Dr Patricia Simon-Hart for requesting for N250 billion for the rehabilitation of the water scheme in the Port Harcourt metropolis.

In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary in the state, Jerry Needam, the party described Dr Simon-Hart’s proposal and request as bogus and far from realistic.

The party said that the staggering sum demanded by her for the provision of potable water in the Port Harcourt metropolis shows her lack of working knowledge to run the sector.

The ACN expressed regret that Governor Amaechi is talking about the provision of water for the capital city of the state four years into his tenure as governor of the state.

The party called on government to explain what has happened to the huge funds that accrued to the Water Resources Ministry in the past three to four years, especially given the fact that most residents of the city have provided their own water within the period under consideration and may have even forgotten that water pipes lie underground in Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor communities of the state.

Governor Amaechi at different fora had explained that his administration had been facing serious challenges in executing its water master plan because its cost to the purse of the state.
