A teenager hawking yoghurt and other soft drinks at Anthony Bus Stop, Ikorodu Road, Lagos has been knocked down by a sachet water truck.
The hawker did not die and was rushed to the Ikeja General Hospital by officials of the Lagos Ambulance Bus Service (LASAMBUS). The driver of the truck attempted to run away but was pursued by commercial motorcycle riders who apprehended him and handed him over to the police.
A doctor who works at Freelance Hospital, Dr. Harry Emwa Ogboi, said he quickly called officials of LASAMBUS after giving the injured hawker first aid treatment.
Officials of LASAMBUS arrived the scene later in their vehicle with registration number LA 157 A08 and took the hawker to the hospital.
Dr. Ogboi expressed anger at the late arrival of the officials, saying that they arrived an hour after his call.
He accused them of not putting premium on human life.
Some passersby and motorists who witnessed the accident appealed to the Lagos State government to provide officials of LASAMBUS with the necessary logistics and personnel in the discharge of their duties because some of the officials attributed their lateness to lack of vehicles and materials to bring to the accident scene.
