Martins Loses Brother

The immediate elder brother of Obafemi Martins, Oladipupo, died of heart problem early today at the Dorel Specialist Hospital, Ajah, Lagos.

Waheed Kosoko, the chief coach of Young Strikers Football Club of Lagos Island who broke the news to P.M. Sports said the deceased, who played for the All Stars FC of Austria, was having a recurring heart problem, which was treated on Saturday, but suddenly developed the same problem early today and eventually died.

Kosoko who could not hold back his tears while speaking with P.M.Sports said Oladipupo’s death came as a shock to the family members, associates and friends. He described the late Oladipupo as a friendly and humbled person, saying that his club will dearly miss him.

“Ladi is too young to die. He was the only player that always remembered me and the Young Strikers. He assisted the club in so many ways. We’ll miss him badly,” he said.

Kosoko said Ladi’s brother, Super Eagles striker, Obafemi Martins, told the family to go ahead with the burial arrangement.

Oladipupo is survived by wife and son, who are currently living in London.

He was buried today at the Victoria Garden City Cemetery on Victoria Island according to Islamic rites.
