Police Intercept Guns, Ammunition In Kano

Police in Kano, North-West Nigeria are on the trail of a gang of criminals suspected to be terrorising Kano and neighbouring states.

At the weekend, a team of policemen from the Kano Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, CID, intercepted a Honda Civic car on Zaria Road with an AK 47 rifle, LAR rifle, 94 rounds of live ammunition and three-rifle magazines found in the car.

According to the state Police Spokesman, Magaji Musa Majia, the occupants of the vehicle suspected to be criminals on a nefarious mission within Kano metropolis, abandoned the vehicle and escaped while the police engaged them on a hot chase.

“Efforts have been intensified to accost and arrest the fleeing armed robbers,” urging the public to come up with useful information on activities of criminals and hoodlums within their domain.

The Police spokesman reiterated the desire of the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Idris to partner with the public in a bid to combat crime headlong in the state.

“The Commissioner of Police is ever ready to partner with the Kano people to ensure a crime-free society. In this line, we have released to the public, phone numbers of the Commissioner of Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police, the Area Commanders and other Police Chiefs.

“The phone numbers are open 24 hours and we entertain information and complaints from the public at any given time.”

As part of security measures, the Kano police command in conjunction with the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, and Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIO, have commenced arrest and prosecution of vehicle owners who use siren without authorisation, drive vehicles without plate numbers (front and back) and use tinted glass.
