A student of the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Mrs. Victoria Ogoaje, has asked an Ojo Grade ‘A’ Customary Court to dissolve her four-year old marriage because her husband, Mr. Gbenga Ogoaje was maltreating her.

In her petition, she accused her husband of several things, including not paying her dowry, assault and lack of love. “There is no more love between us because he doesn’t care for me. He was always beating me,” she added.

She urged the court to stop the defendant from further intimidating her and grant her custody of the two-year old product of the marriage, Oluwaseun Ogoaje, for proper care.

In his response, the defendant, Mr. Gbenga Ogoaje, prayed the court not to dissolve the marriage because he still loves his wife.

“There is still love in our marriage. What happened was a mistake. I have knelt and begged her several times, even in her school but my in-laws refused to forgive me. They warned me to stay away from their daughter,’’ he stated.

The court advised him to go back to his in-laws and beg them to forgive him. “Go and tell them you are ready to amend your ways and that you still love their daughter because she is the mother of your son,” the court advised him further.

He urged the court to give him the whole of August to settle with his in-laws and the matter was adjourned till 1 September, 2011.
