The leadership of the Lagos State chapter of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), has been called upon not to allow the chairman of Epe Local Government, Mr. Jamiu Olusegun Agbaje, to have a second term in office.

A statement by some elders of Epe community signed by Elder Sabiu Gberefu and Madam Abikanyin Giwa, alleged that three years as first term of the council boss was a waste as most major and link roads ins the area have become death traps.

The group also decried the dilapidated condition of public schools in the area, while the drainages are blocked and street light is no more functioning.

The group, which admitted Agbaje as “son of the soil,” pointed out that he was not familiar with Epe problems before he was made chairman of the council, adding that it was one of the reasons that contributed to his poor performance.

“The long and short of our point is that both Agbaje and Alhaji Akanni Seriki Bamu have disappointed the people of the local government,” the statement read.

According to the group in the statement, the community has chosen the right candidate who will serve the people better in the forthcoming council poll.

“We hereby stoutly kick against the second term bid of Mr. Jamiu Agbaje through imposition by his mentor, Alhaji Shakiru Seriki,” the statement added.

In his reaction, however, the council boss dismissed the allegation of poor performance, saying that the group was sponsored by the opposition.

According to Agbaje in a telephone chat, “this administration has taken Epe Local Government to a greater height. We work with the interest of our people at heart on all the projects embarked upon and they are physical projects. I have the knowledge of every nook and cranny of my community and if there is any area that has not been touched, the concerned people can discuss with us during she CDA/CDC meetings and also at our town hall meetings. We have good relationship with the members of our community and are much accessible and available to our people.”

Some of the projects executed, according to him, were based on the needs of the people and in line with the sole aim of the development of Epe community, adding that assessment team’s reports at different quarters can testify to it that his administration executed people oriented programmes including construction of Olokodana, Abidakun/Shabi and Adebayo Odukoya roads as well as renovation of Zumuratu Islamiyah and Abejoye primary schools, among others.
