The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has ruled out giving the coaching job of the U-17 Golden Eaglets to the former Nigerian internationals on a platter of gold.

The NFF is planning to name a coach for the junior team anytime from now and Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme, the Deputy General Secretary (Technical)told P.M.Sports in Abuja yesterday that the NFF won’t be sentimental when considering candidates for the Eaglets job despite that majority of the applicants are ex-internationals.

“The U-17 is a very sensitive level and I know the technical committee are very critical of who they will appoint. We know that some ex-internationals have applied, but what we want Nigerians to know is that there is a difference between playing the game and coaching. We will not be cajoled that because you are ex-internationals, then the job will be yours automatically,” Ikpeme stated.

He noted that the technical committee is determined to ensure that the right man for the job is appointed, irrespective of whether he is an ex-International or not.

Former internationals like Nduka Ugbade, Emmanuel Amunike and Taribo West have all been linked to the job that has 13 candidates jostling for the appointment.
