Robbers struck in Ilaro and Ifo areas of Yewa South and Ifo local government areas of Ogun state today, killing an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) simply identified as Peter and three others, including two women and a man.

In what appears as a fresh onslaught in the state, the robbers who reportedly were 12 in number, came in four vehicles.

They also carted away millions of naira after raiding banks at Ilaro before attacking a combined Police team, which the late ASP was heading.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the robbers stormed Ilaro around 12 noon and embarked on an operation which lasted almost one hour. They reportedly visited three new generation banks.

After the incident, two women and a young man were killed while many others were allegedly wounded as they were hit by stray bullets.

The robbers, it was further gathered, escaped from Ilaro via Abalabi through Ibogun and Ilogbo area in Ifo where they met stiff resistance from the police combat team.

The resultant gun battle led to the killing of ASP Peter. They subsequently headed towards Sango in Ado Odo/ Ota Local Government Area of the state.

However, it was gathered that the 192 Battalion Army in Owode deployed some of its officers to go after the robbers, as it was earlier speculated that they were escaping through Idogo into Benin Republic.

The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the robbery incident to our correspondent at Ilaro, hinting that the Command was laying ambush for them.

The corpse of the ASP has been deposited at the Ifo General Hospital mortuary, Ifo.
