Undergraduate, 2 Others Docked For Forgery

Three persons, including an undergraduate, were on Wednesday arraigned in Lagos for allegedly presenting forged documents to the United Kingdom Embassy for a visa.

Ademola Rafiu, 29, a student of University of Lagos; John Anekwe, 26, a trader and Ngozi Nwaka, 27, a housewife, were alleged to have presented a forged letter of invitation with intent to obtain a visa.

They are standing trial at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on a two-count charge of conspiracy and forgery.

The prosecutor, Insp. Lawal Awudu told the court that the accused committed the offence on August 4, in Lagos.

Awudu said the accused presented a forged letter of invitation to the British Deputy High Commission for it to be acted upon as genuine, to enable them obtain a UK visa.

He said that the offence contravened Sections 468 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate E.A. Fabanwo granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 each with one surety in like sum.

The case has been adjourned till September 6 for further hearing.
