3 Robbery Suspects Arrested In Ado-Odo

Nemesis has caught up with three robbery suspects who allegedly specialises in robbing people who withdraw money from the bank through the ATM.

The suspects whose names were given as Mahotin, Stone and Efo Igo (Broken bottle) were arrested on Wednesday by the combined team of policemen and the youths between Badagry and Ijanikin area after they had dispossessed some people who had gone to withdraw money from two new generation banks in Festac town, Lagos.

Narrating the incident to our correspondent, the leader of the youth in Ado-Odo community in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, Chief Jimoh Olawale Taofiq, disclosed that they have been on the trail of the suspects for long until they were arrested after a tip-off.

According to him, “ these boys have been terrorising us in this area. There were complaints about their activities so we had to work with the police to ensure that we got them. God has made it possible now. I believe that their colleagues will now run away from our area.

“We got a distress call from some people whom they had robbed and we got across to the police and we went after them. They always used motorcycle for their nefarious act. Luck ran out on them around Ijanikin town. The police tried a lot and I think they deserve commendation for that.”

Chief Jimoh further disclosed that the robbers confessed that they were living in Ado-Odo and they were led to our town by some people. It was then we got to know that only one of them resides in Ado while others were his accomplices who came into the town during the Obaship tussle. They said they live in between Badagry and neighbouring Benin Rebuplic.

“These boys were operating between Nigeria and Benin Republic. When we got to the house of ‘Stone’, the one that lives in Ado, we were told that three ladies who were in their house and claimed to be their girlfriends escaped after they received a phone call from somebody. When the room was searched, stolen items such as electronic gadgets, household items, ammunition, dangerous weapons and several amount of money were recovered and taken away by the police,” he said.

Reacting to the incident, the Olofin of Ado-Odo, Oba Abdul Lateef Adeniran Akanni commended the police and the youth, adding that, ” the government should equip the police so as to enable them perform their job well. They have proved to be alive to their duties and the government should give them necessary support with good incentive. Our youths have also demonstrated that they are the true future leaders by giving adequate support to the security agents to wipe away robbers from our area. Other youths should emulate this and shun any act that can ruin their future.”

Another Chief in the community who spoke with our correspondent praised the police and expressed joy over the development.

The Osolo of Ado Kingdom, High Chief Mufutau Agbogunleri said, “this is a welcome development from our police, if they can continue with this trend, robbers will flee this country. That does not mean we don’t have bad eggs among them, but I think they are living up to our expectations now.”

Investigation by our correspondent revealed that the robbery suspects have been detained at the Festac Police Station in Lagos where they are being interrogated.
