Flying Eagles have continued to receive commendations following their qualification for the quarter final of the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia.

The Nigerian team beat England 1-0 in the Round of 16 game played in Armenia in the early hours of Thursday to set up a quarter final clash against France on Sunday. The French team beat Ecuador 1-0 in another Round of 16 tie yesterday.

The duo of Fortune Chukwudi, captain of Nigeria’s Under-17 team, which reached the final of the Nigeria 2009 and Monday James, a member of the Coach Samson Siasia-tutored Flying Eagles squad in Holland 2005 U-20 World, commended Coach John Obuh and his boys for qualifying for the next stage of the tournament.

Chukwudi said: “I am happy that they were able to defeat the English side and progress to the next stage. I think we are now closer to the trophy.

James on his part said: “I congratulate the whole team and wish them good luck when they take on France on Sunday. It is always a big task to shoulder the hopes of millions of Nigerians at a major tourney such as the FIFA World Cup.”
