Man Steals N1.3m Fish

The police at Ota, Ogun State have arraigned a man who allegedly stole cartons of fish worth N1,300,000 before the Ota Magistrates’ Court for theft.

The accused, Soliu Nurudeen, was alleged to have stolen the consignment between September 2009 and June 2011 at Ajose Oluwagbemiga fish deport, Akute by falsifying the company’s invoice. He was charged with a five-count charge of stealing and falsifying invoice with intention to defraud the company.

The prosecutor, Corporal O. Awoleke told the court that from September 2009 to June 2011, the accused stole cartons of fish worth N1,300,000, property of Ajose Oluwagbemiga of 105, Water Pipeline, Akute, an offence punishable under Sections 390(6), 435(b), 395, 477, of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State of Nigeria, 2006.

The defence counsel, Barrister A Adeyemo urged the presiding magistrate, Alhaji Akeem Adenariwo to grant the accused bail because he has been cooperating with the police since the beginning of the case by making himself available.

Alhaji Adenariwo granted his plea and admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety.

He adjourned the case till 24 October, 2011 for further hearing.
