Rivers Police, Robbers In Gun Battle

Rivers State Command Anti-Robbery Squad patrol teams at about 11.22 p.m. along Omagwa/Ozuoha road in Port Harcourt, engaged armed robbers who robbed villagers and vehicles travelling from Port Harcourt to Owerri in a gun battle, killing two of them,while others escaped.

According to the statement by Ben Ugwuegbulam, the spokesman of the state police command, “Police Patrol teams at Omagwa road were alerted by vigilantes that armed gangs blocked the road and were robbing passengers.”

On sighting the police team, the gunmen drew the first blood. The police responded and over powered the robbery suspects in the gun duel, according to police statement.

At the end of the gun battle,”two guns were recovered from the hoodlums who were fatally injured and later confirmed dead at the hospital.”

The police spokesman further said that “investigation continues to arrest the other fleeing suspects.”
