Zenith Women’s League: First Bank’s Defeat Excites Erinfolami

The chief coach of First Deepwater Club, Lateef Erinfolami, has declared that his best moment at the just concluded Zenith Premier League in Akure was the defeat his side inflicted on their arch rivals, First Bank Club.

“It was a moment I felt really happy because we had prepared hard for the game. We could not afford to lose once again to First Bank after they beat us in Abuja during the first phase of the league.”

“The players knew what was at stake as you could see the level of seriousness and commitment that went into the match. And after the game, we were all happy to let our opponent (First Bank) has their own bitter taste of defeat.”

First Deepwater went past First Bank 60-58 points in the thrilling encounter that was witnessed by a capacity filled stadium at the Akure Township Stadium.

The high tempo game started with the champions dropping the first quarter by 12-13 points but rose to the occasion in the second quarter winning by 17-11 points to take a 45-41 point’s lead into the break.

First Bank effort to come back into the game was rebuffed by Deepwater tutored by two former Nigeria senior national team captains, Lateef Erinfolami and Shola Ogunade-Shomala.Though the champions dropped the third and fourth quarters by 16-17 and 15-17 points but their second quarter’s five points lead was enough to give them a well deserve victory.
