Former Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, has revealed the reason France had an upper hand over the Flying Eagles in the quarter final match of the FIFA World Youth Championship in Colombia.
Rufai, fondly called Dodomayana during his playing days, told P.M. Sports in Lagos that the Nigerian team were not tactically and technically good compared to their opponents who were more cohesive and adventurous up front on the field of play.
“Both teams played good football, but when we look at the match from the technical point of view, you will agree with me that France were better. It appeared that our boys lost focus and they did not have the zeal to win the match,†he said.
Rufai, who advised Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to focus on grassroots sports development if Nigeria wants to excel in the FIFA age grade football tournaments expressed satisfaction with the performances of the team in their previous group matches.
