Some residents of Kano have expressed concern over the invasion of black insects in several parts of the ancient city.

Some of the residents who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Kano, called for prayers and divine intervention to combat the insects.

They said that insecticides and insect powder had no effect on them.

Hajia Halima Yau, who resides in Na’ibawa quarters, told NAN that the insects often appeared during the rainy season.

Malam Haruna Wada, who resides at Gwale area in the heart of the city, decried the menace of the insects which, according to him, eat up cooked and raw foodstuffs.

“In those days, these insects were usually found around cemeteries, but surprisingly they have now crossed into residential areas,” Wada told NAN.

Malama Sakina Adamu, a house wife at Daneji, who narrated her ordeal with the insects, said they had even found their way into her bedroom.

“The sting of the insects burn like fire,” Adamu said, and appealed to the council to carry out aerial spraying to kill the insects.

Meanwhile, the Kano State Executive Council had earmarked N60 million to spray eight local government areas in the state to control malaria, NAN reports.

The spraying is scheduled to commence next week.
