There are indications that the forthcoming local government election in Lagos State may not hold in Ikeja Local Government Area.

This is because some community leaders and indigenes are plotting to disrupt it.

Five community heads in the area said they were battle ready to stop the poll if Action Congress of Nigeria,ACN, the party in power, would not stop the imposition of candidates on them.

The leaders include the Head of Allen Avenue, Alhaji Bolaji Thomas-Jaji, Head of Anifowose community, Chief Kayode Okeyemi, Head of Onipetesi, Chief B. Akinola, Chief Lateef Apena and Chairman, Ikeja Indigenes, Mr. Tajudeen Adefolami.

According to them, almost all chairmen and councillors that have led the local government since its inception were imposed on the people by the party in power.

“We don’t know them. They come and go without doing anything to improve the area. They are not Ikeja indigenes and not ready to do any meaningful project to change the face of the capital city of Lagos,” they said.

The elders called on ACN leadership to leave the politics of Ikeja Local Government Area, adding that the residents are ready to elect their own leaders in the forthcoming election.

“This is an appeal to ACN state leaders, and failure to heed our plea may jeopardise the forthcoming poll,” they said.
