At the end of the third week of Unity Community Games at Ifetedo Alagbole, Ogun State, Ogunleye Ogunaike zone is still leading other participating zones on the medals table.

Right from the start of this year’s edition of the annual tourney, the boys from Ogunleye and Ogunaike streets, which made up of the zone, have not made secret of their intention to become the overall winners of the community championship.

Hence, it did not come as a surprise to many, when the medals table was revealed at the close of last weekend’s rounds of activities. They were sitting comfortably at the top of the table with 10 points.

Oshin, the host, follows closely at the second position with 7 points, while the duo of Fakeye and Ade-Odeniyi zones have 4 points each. Dele Ajayi zone is occupying the rear with 2 points.

Soccer actions that were decided at the weekend saw Ade Odeniyi zone playing out a 2-2 draw against Fakeye Segilola Zone. The seemingly invincible Ogunleye zone was held to a barren 0-0 draw by the weeping boys of Dele Ajayi zone.

Sunday’s fixtures produced another goalless draw with the tie between Ade-Odeniyi and Dele Ajayi, while the encounter between Ogunleye and Oshin zone was productive as it ended in 2-1 in favour of Ogunleye Ogunaike zone.

Meanwhile, the tourney has continued to attract a lot of sponsorship from corporate bodies which are using the rare opportunity to identify with the Games. Leading the group was Golden Penny Noodles that has been represented every week by at the tourney by its Plant Manager, Mr.Gboyega Alabi.Other sponsors that have been giving out gifts to the participants since the start of the games are Cadbury Nigeria, and Mouka Foam.

Reacting to the development, Vice-Chairman of the community, Mr. Aina said: “we are amazed with the rate at which gifts are pouring in from various sponsors that are trying to identify with the games. It shows the extent of the mileage the tourney has been gaining in its short life span.”
