Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State on Tuesday assured the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) of the state government’s support in the provision of furniture for the union’s secretariat in Abuja.

Oshiomhole, who gave the assurance at the inauguration of the union’s secretariat, lauded the efforts of the union’s administration in ensuring the completion of the secretariat.

He also appealed to the Federal Government to boost the efforts of the union for efficient performance among others.

“I know that you built this with your own resources and having done so well in mobilising resources to get this secretariat, you need support from the government.

“On behalf of the government and people of Edo, with regard to this project, I will make the contribution to support you in furnishing the building,” Oshiomhole said.

He described the union as a strategic force in politics and commended the initiative of the past administration for laying the foundation of the secretariat.

The governor said, “If the union is not independent, it cannot serve the interest of the public.

“And you cannot be said to be independent without having your own secretariat, with this, it shows that you are truly independent.”
