Some concerned members of staff of the Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA), have petitioned the state governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa; Head of Service, Mr. Adesegun Ogunlewe and the state’s Civil Service Commission, over the appointment of Mr. Babatunde Edu as the acting General Manager of the transport outfit.
According to the petition dated 1 July, 2011, it was alleged that Edu was erroneously appointed as acting general manager of LASTMA in 2008 from the ministry.
The petitioners also stated that Edu joined the ministry in November 1993 with Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and was placed on salary grade level 08, which they alleged was contrary to the state civil service commission’s remuneration law and ethics.
It was further alleged that Edu’s appointment, promotion and career profession are questionable and should be properly investigated in order to uphold the esteemed standard of Lagos State Civil Service Commission built over the years.
They urged the appropriate authority not to sweep the petition under the carpet, since a director in the commission has been assigned to look into the allegations, while a committee is said to have been set up to investigate the matter.
