The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Engr. Omar Suleiman has charged the Commissioner of Police (explosives ordinance disposal unit) Mr. Ambrose Aisabor Ogbemudia, to ensure a better security in the nation’s ports by deploying more bomb disposal experts to the ports’ gates to effectively and efficiently screen vehicles moving in and out of the ports and even the smaller boats operating along the channels.
Engr. Omar said that the NPA will do everything at his disposal to assist the command to purchase equipment needed by the bomb experts and regards it as part of her corporate social responsibility.
The MD of NPA, said he would liaise with the Nigeria Customs Services to ensure scanners are deployed to the gates so that it would be easier to detect explosives and to ensure a safer port environment.
Engr. Omar while receiving the anti-Bomb Squad Commissioner in his office, promised unflinching support from all the staff of the NPA in making the transformation exercise of the Federal Government a reality.
In his address earlier, the Commissioner of Police, Anti-Bomb Squad, Mr. Ambrose Asiabor Ogbemudia said that the new dimension of security problems in the country has led to the police doing a lot so as to bring the situation under control with much emphasis on crime prevention.
