Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki has described the death of former military Vice President Augustus Aikhomu as a great loss to Nigeria.

The former governor of Kwara and senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District said in a statement in Ilorin on Sunday that Nigerians would remember Aikhomu, a retired Navy Admiral, for his contributions to the socio-economic development of the country.

The statement, issued by Saraki’s Media Assistant, Mr. Akintoba Fatiregun, said Nigerians would miss Aikhomu’s advice in the efforts of the present administration to transform Nigeria.

Saraki described Aikhomu as a detribalised Nigerian, who used his position to improve the lives of the people.

”There is no doubt that Nigerians will be missing his wealth of experience, wisdom, among others, in the current task of building a new Nigeria,” Saraki said.

He said Aikhomu was a man of honour and dignity and prayed Almighty God to give the family of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss.

In another development, Saraki congratulated former Military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida on his 70th birthday.

He said there was no doubt that Babangida had contributed immensely to the socio-economic and political development of Nigeria.

Saraki prayed Almighty Allah to continue to grant Babangida good health to enabe him to witness more good things in life and also to contribute more to the well-being of the people.
