Community leaders in Ikeja Local Government Area of Lagos State have denied reports that they planned to disrupt the forthcoming council polls in the area.

One of the community leaders, the Baale of Onipetesi, Ikeja, Chief Olusegun Akinola said he never planned to disrupt any council poll as reported, saying that what was discussed at the meeting with the Olu of Ikeja was how to move the council forward.

“The Olu of Ikeja called a meeting at his palace and the Baale of Atan, Anifowoshe were in attendance. What we discussed at the meeting was how to move Ikeja forward and the coming Isese Day and not politics.

“I am not a party to disrupt the forthcoming local government election as a law abiding citizen and an ambassador of peace.

The Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Hon. Wale Odulami has been doing his best for the development of Ikeja,” he said.

He commended Odunlami for executing projects in his community, such as tarring of Ajakaiye Street in Phase one, two and three; construction of drainages at Adegboyega Street; construction of blocks of classrooms at the State Primary School, Onipetesi, among others.

Speaking on behalf of other community leaders, Chief Adegunwa Oshinubi, Chairman, Ikeja Community Development Committee, CDC and Ogunbiyi Community Development Association, Computer Village, Ikeja, said there is no iota of truth in the report that they planned to disrupt council polls in the area.

He said the publication emanated from the enemies of progress who are envious of the achievements of the incumbent chairman of the local government.

He declared that all the community chairmen in the area were solidly behind the second term ambition of the Ikeja council boss.

The Ikeja CDC chairman praised Odunlami for taking the local government to an enviable height, adding that a single term was not enough for him to finish all the good works he started in the area.

“The publication is malicious and it is coming from the pit of hell. It emanated from those that are envious of the achievements of the chairman and since there is nothing that they can do to stop him, they resorted to character assassination.

“We know them and they know themselves. When the chips are down, the so called permanent secretary that they are working for would not be able to save them,” he said.
