The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has renewed efforts at arresting and prosecuting traffic offenders in Abuja, Mr. Augustine Aipoh, the FRSC Commander in-charge of Zone 7, FCT, said.

Aipoh made the statement in Abuja on Monday at an interactive forum with the officials of NURTW, Abuja chapter.

He said the trend in the territory, whereby motorists drove against the traffic to compound road congestion in the metropolis, called for renewed action.

Aipoh urged the union to prevail on its members to abide by traffic rules and regulations as the commission would no longer tolerate indiscipline among commercial drivers.

“We had to call this meeting because of the peculiar situation we are finding ourselves in the city, the indiscipline on our roads, particularly motorists driving against traffic.

“We feel that Abuja, which is the Federal Capital Territory, driving against traffic and driving on walkways and indiscriminate parking must stop,” he said.

Aipoh said driving against traffic, on pedestrian walkways and indiscriminate parking constituted reckless driving, which the commission would no longer tolerate.

“The trend has gone to a level that it can no longer be condoned in the FCT, our men will go out and apprehend motorists who engage in traffic offences,” he said.

Aipoh said the attitude was not good for the image of the city and the country in general.

“As we appeal to you, we want to tell you that the law must take its course,” the commander added.
