Lagos Set Standard For Sports Associations

As part of its effort to reposition and return the lost glory of sports in Lagos State, the government of Babatunde Raji Fashola has put in place machinery that will ensure credible people run various sports associations in the state.

P.M.Sports investigations revealed that the government, through the Office of the Commissioner for Sports, Barrister Enitan Oshodi and Prince Wale Oladunjoye, Senior Special Assistant on Grassroots Sports Development to Governor Raji Fashola, believes for Lagos to take its rightful position in Nigerian sports, leadership of various sports associations under the sports council must be people who are credible, transparent and have genuine interest of sports they are administering at heart.

To achieve this aim, the government is giving members of the public, in various of backgrounds, religious and ethnic interest the chance of becoming members of sports association in Lagos State.

The Office of the Commissioner for Sports has made a data form available to interested members of the public to pick and fill at the Sports Council, Rowe Park, Yaba, where they are mandated to show an expression of interest on any sports association they can contribute their quota to.

In the data form, a copy which was made available to P.M.Sports, interested members of the public will state among other things position sought, the extent of his or her support to the choice association in terms of funding, equipment, as well as the experience of such person in sports administration.

It was gathered that the state government wants the era of favouritism and corruption in sports associations to end.

The overall intention is to put round pegs in round holes, emphasising that management of sports in the state should come with with transparency and love for the games.
