Oceanography Institute Holds Public Bidding For Projects

It was an open public bidding last Wednesday for major projects being undertaken by the Institute of Oceanogrpahy and Fisheries as members of the public including human rights organisations witnessed the bidding process.

The biddings were for the rehabilitation of a jetty in Lagos and the construction of an incubation fishing centre to be located at Iseyin in Oyo State.

The bidding exercise was presided over by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the institute, Professor Olajide Ayinla.

At the bidding, each sealed envelope of the bids presented by each company was shown to the audience before opening and the cost of the bidding read out. For the jetty project, three companies, Annon Ventures, Ballet Nigeria Limited and ABYS Dynamics Limited, bidded. Annon bidded N544.185 million, Ballet Nigeria Limited bidded N552.777 million while ABYS Dynamics bidded N475.320 million.

Representatives of the companies were on hand to witness, confirm and sign their companies’ bids.

For the establishment of the incubation centre, five companies bidded but only three were represented at the bidding exercise. While Yakfat Engineering Limited and Reasons Nigeria Limited which bidded N160.432 million and N146.044 million respectively were absent at the exercise, representatives of Newton and Units Services Company, N140.210 million; High Skill Limited, N154.583 million; and Gazinped West Africa Limited, N143.908 million, were on hand to witness, confirm and sing their bids.

Professor Ayinla stated that the bid for the construction of the centre would be determined by the institute while the organisation will make recommendation for the other project to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture for approval.

Representatives of Centre for Free Speech (CFS) and other human rights organisations witnessed the bidding process.
