Tenant Attacks Civil Defence Officer

The Police in Ota, Ogun State have dragged a man, Taiwo Arojojoye, 28 before the Ota Senior Magistrates’ Court for assaulting a complainant, Bankole Ayodele, a civil defence officer, whom he accused of sleeping with his wife.

The accused allegedly gave the complainant blows all over his body and also cut him with axe in his left and right hands.

The accused is standing trial on a count charge of unlawful assault, which the police prosecutor, Inspector Femi Shodiya, said occurred on 3 July at 9, Ewenje Street, Ope-Ilu, Agbado.

The prosecutor disclosed that the offence contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and explained the circumstances leading to the assault.

He told the court that the complainant, Bankole Ayodele, was his tenant, adding that on the date of the incident, he came back from work and met him on his matrimonial bed with his wife.

He said he assaulted him because he was very angry, adding that when he realised his mistake, he paid his medical bill at the hospital.

The presiding magistrate O.O. Ojo asked the complainant what he was doing with the wife of the accused but he could not give a satisfactory answer.

He granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with a surety and adjourned the case till 23 September, 2011 for hearing.
