Lagos NURTW Scribe Warns Members

The secretary of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Comrade Akin James, has warned members of the union to desist from granting press interviews without getting clearance from the state council.

Comrade James gave the warning while addressing members of the union during an emergency meeting at the Abule-Egba Secretariat of the council.

He explained that a situation whereby members indiscriminately issued press releases or grant interviews without clearance was causing serious confusion within the union.

“I want to tell our members that the directive banning indiscriminate granting of interviews is still in force. We should desist from granting press interviews or issue press releases, as the leadership of the union would not take it lightly. Whoever wants to grant interview or issue press release should get clearance from the state council,” he stated.

Apart from that, James also advised members to always ensure that they fulfil their financial obligations to the union as any member who fails to meet its financial obligations would be denied the opportunity of partaking in union activities, including elections.

On the dissolution of the state council of the union, James explained that constitutionally, the state council stands dissolved after the national delegate conference, but the executives were allowed to remain in office until further directives or till the state’s delegates election of the union which must be done within two months so as not to create a vacuum.

“We have done the national delegates election of our union, the state’s delegates conference would soon come up. So, before then, there shouldn’t be a vacuum, hence the executives are still around.”

James advised members to shun violence and other illegal activities so as not to tarnish the image of the union.
