As the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar draws nearer, Super Eagles’ goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorunmu, has asserted that only victory against their opponents will guarantee Nigeria a place in next year’s Nations Cup slated for Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
Shorunmu said the match against Madagascar is a must-win for the team if they want to qualify for the African tournament.
With the current performance of Nigerian players in Europe, Shorunmu boasted that Nigeria stand the chance of beating Madagascar on their home soil.
“We cannot afford to lose or draw against Madagascar because we are in a critical situation . Wether we like it or not, we must win our two remaining matches in the qualifying series if we want to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations. We know the task ahead and we cannot afford to disappoint Nigerians,†he said.
The former Eagles’ goalkeeper assured Nigerians that if they can get the three maximum points in Madagascar, their last match against Guinea will be easy to win in Abuja.
Nigeria are in second position behind Guinea, who are currently leading Group B.
