The Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has faulted Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, and the Lagos State House of Assembly over their outburst on the decision of President Goodluck Jonathan to sack Justice Isa Ayo Salami, and appoint an acting president for the Court of Appeal on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council.

The Governor and LAHA had condemned the action of the President, describing it as subjudice and violation of Rule of Law.

The Party, however, wonders why the Lagos State governor and the House of Assembly would adopt a holier than thou attitude over a matter where the NJC is performing its Constitutional Obligations under Schedule 3, Section 21 of the Constitution, when the state government, under the ACN has made the violation of several provisions of the self-same constitution a national sport.

The party further wonders why the governor and LAHA believe that they are themselves respecters of the Rule of Law in the light of the present Violation of Human and Economic Rights with KAI & Task force officials usurping of the Local Government functions and funds, running LCDAs and even conducting polls into the said LCDA’s even after the Supreme Court and a Lagos high court had declared the LCDAs illegal and unconstitutional.

According to the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Barrister Taofeek Gani,”LASAA and Land Use Charge are just a few of the illegal and unconstitutional agencies and taxes created but that cannot stand the test of Constitutionality but Indeed, ‘breaking the Law to enforce the Law.”

The party advised the Lagos State government and the state Assembly not to join others who are out to overheat the polity with their stance on the issue, adding that they should rather concentrate on making up for the glaringly overwhelming infrastructure deficits in all parts of the state, and find ways to ameliorate the suffering of the hardworking citizens of the state before defending the indefensible.
